Privacy Policy
Last updated September 12, 2026Same Seed is three small daily games — PLUNK!, MINGLE!, and BONEYARD — made by a tiny indie club, not a data company. This page says exactly what we collect, why, and how to make us delete it. No legal padding, we promise.
The short version
- To play, you just get a random device ID and pick a display name. No email, no account, no sign-up wall.
- Your display name and scores are public on the leaderboards — anyone can see them, so don't use your real name if you'd rather not.
- Signing in is entirely optional. Its only job is carrying your scores and streak to a new phone.
- No ads, no ad trackers, no data brokers, nothing sold to anyone. We don't have an advertising business.
- We use Clerk for sign-in, Neon for our database, Vercel for hosting, and Apple and RevenueCat for optional Club purchases. Google is involved only if you choose Google sign-in.
- Daily play is free. The optional Same Seed Club is a one-time in-app purchase, processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat.
- You can delete a signed-in account from the app. For help or anonymous data requests, contact us. See Your choices below.
Playing without an account
You can play every game, every day, without ever telling us who you are. The first time you open Same Seed, your device quietly generates a random ID (a UUID, the digital equivalent of a raffle ticket number) and stores it right there in the app. That ID isn't your name, your email, or your Apple ID — it's just a way for our scoreboard to recognize "this player" from one day to the next.
You can also pick a display name (1–20 characters, purely for show — we don't verify it's really you, because there's no "you" on file to verify against). Skip it and you play as anon.
When you finish a ranked daily run, your app sends us:
- your device ID
- your display name (or
anon) - your score
- a few small facts about that specific run — for example, the highest tier you reached and which charms you drafted in PLUNK!, the round you reached and which trick tiles you owned in BONEYARD, or how many moves and cascades you used in MINGLE!
That last group exists purely to make your result screen and share card correct — it's stats about the run, not about you. We also record which game/day combination you've already used your one ranked run for, so the "one run a day" rule holds even if you close the app and come back.
What stays only on your device
A good amount of Same Seed's memory never leaves your phone or browser. This includes your in-progress and saved games, your best scores, sound/haptics/music preferences, which tutorial tips you've already seen, and a small counter that stops us from asking you to sign in more than a few times. Practice saves and device preferences stay local. Ranked results and archive bests are sent to our server; pending ranked results are also kept locally so the app can retry after a connection failure. A failed result is retried only within the ranking window and for the original player and challenge date.
If you uninstall the app or clear your browser's storage, this all disappears and you start fresh next time, including a brand-new random device ID. Scores already submitted under your old ID stay on our server until you ask us to remove them (see Your choices).
Your name and scores are public
Whatever display name you type is shown next to your score on the daily and all-time leaderboards — and those boards are visible to anyone, including people who've never played Same Seed. There's no privacy setting that hides your rank or your name from other players once you've submitted a score. If you'd rather stay pseudonymous, just pick a handle instead of your real name — we never ask for the latter.
We do keep a light hand on names: they're trimmed, capped at 20 characters, and stripped of control characters before they're stored. An automated filter replaces detected objectionable names with anon. Filters are imperfect; contact us to report a name that needs review.
Friends and share codes
Every player has a short, public share code (something like Q7K3PX) that others can use to follow them on a "friends" leaderboard. That code is generated from your device ID but can't be reversed back into it — your device ID is not displayed on public leaderboards or included in friend invitations. Following someone is one-way and doesn't need their approval, the same way anyone can already see their public score on the daily board.
Signing in (optional)
Signing in exists for one reason: so your scores, streak, and rank follow you if you switch phones or reinstall. You will never be asked to sign in to play — it's an offer that shows up gently after a good run, and it's easy to dismiss for good.
Sign-in is handled by Clerk, an authentication provider (see Who we share data with). Depending on how you sign in, Clerk may collect an email address, or, if you choose "Sign in with Google," basic profile details Google shares as part of that sign-in (typically name, email, and profile photo). That happens inside Clerk's own systems, under Clerk's (and, where relevant, Google's) privacy policies.
Our game database stores your Clerk account identifier, linked device IDs, public display name, scores, friends, archive results, membership mark, and product analytics. We do not copy your account email into the game database. If you choose your real name as your public display name, that chosen name is stored with your scores.
Signing in does not choose a public leaderboard name for you. You type or explicitly confirm that name yourself. Names saved by older versions need confirmation before new scores use them; until then, new scores use anon. Existing published scores may still show a previously used name. Contact us if you need help removing one.
What we don't collect
Same Seed doesn't ask for, and has no code path to collect, any of the following: your location, your contacts, your camera or photo library, your microphone, or any health or fitness data. There are no advertising SDKs anywhere in the app, no ad identifiers, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind.
The optional Club purchase is processed by Apple. RevenueCat processes purchase history and an app user identifier to check entitlement, restore purchases, and provide purchase analytics. Our app keeps the last known entitlement on your device and reports a membership mark to our game server. We do not receive your card number or payment-account credentials.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers — we don't have relationships with any. A short list of specialist services helps us run Same Seed, and each only sees what it needs to do its job:
- Clerk — handles optional sign-in. See Clerk's privacy policy.
- Neon (part of Databricks) — hosts our Postgres database, where scores, names, device IDs, friend codes, and analytics events live. See Neon's privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosts the website, the game files, and the server functions that talk to the database. Like effectively every website host, Vercel's infrastructure processes standard technical request data (like your device's IP address) simply to deliver the page to you and to keep the service secure — we don't use this for anything beyond that. See Vercel's privacy policy.
- Apple — processes App Store purchases and restores under Apple's privacy policy.
- RevenueCat — validates purchase history and manages Club entitlement and restoration. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
- Google — supplies fonts on our website and privacy page, and handles provider authentication if you choose "Sign in with Google." See Google's privacy policy.
Our gameplay and product analytics are sent to our own database. They include app sessions, screens opened, tutorial and game progress, invitation/share outcomes, visits to our App Store link, and Club purchase/restore outcomes. Events include a device ID and, when a stable signed-in session is available, an account ID. Unload events and batches spanning an account change are recorded without an account ID. We do not put invitation codes, private account names, session tokens, or payment credentials in event properties. RevenueCat separately provides purchase analytics; we do not use an advertising network.
How long we keep things
We keep scores, streaks, friend codes, and analytics events for as long as your device ID or account stays active, so that leaderboards, streaks, and "who do I know" all keep working correctly. We don't currently run an automatic deletion schedule — realistically, the honest answer is "until you ask us to remove it, or the game shuts down." See the next section for how to ask.
Your choices
- Change your name any time from inside the app — it is used on future submissions and can also update earlier scores belonging to the same account or anonymous device.
- Play anonymously — skip sign-in and use anon or a nickname. Gameplay still uses a random device identifier; avoid entering a real name if you do not want it shown publicly.
- Unfollow a friend any time from the friends list — it's immediate and doesn't notify them.
- Delete your account — tap your avatar, then Manage account and Delete account. This removes the signed-in account and its game data, including anonymous data on devices currently linked to it. Scores explicitly owned by another account are preserved. Device-only friend records follow the current device link. Your Apple purchase is separate: deleting the game account does not refund or erase the App Store transaction, and a Club unlock can be restored with the same Apple ID.
- Request help or delete anonymous data — email hello@sameseed.games with your public display name and roughly when you last played. We may need information to verify the request before removing records. Apple and RevenueCat retain purchase records under their own policies.
If your local laws give you specific rights over your personal data (for example, if you're in the EU/EEA, UK, or a US state with its own privacy law), you can exercise them the same way — just reach out using the contact below and tell us what you'd like.
Children
Same Seed is a casual puzzle game and isn't specifically directed at children, but we know a game this friendly may end up played by them anyway. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us information — a display name, a device ID tied to scores, anything — contact us (below) and we'll delete it.
Security
We take reasonable, ordinary precautions — encrypted connections between the app and our servers, access limited to the services listed above — but no online service can promise to be 100% secure, and we won't pretend otherwise. As a small extra data point: this privacy policy page itself doesn't load any scripts or set any cookies. It's just words.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we use it changes in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and move the "last updated" date at the top. We won't quietly expand what we collect without saying so here first.
